Central Bucks West.....13

Pennridge .............14

It was a big game … big. It was a big win for Pennridge (the first time Pennridge won since 1972) and a heartbreaking loss for CB West. For the first time since 1992 you will not find the Bucks in the District playoffs. If anyone left the game early to beat the traffic they missed the entire game.

The game started off with no score in the first quarter. Pennridge and West both punted the ball away on their first possessions. The Bucks scored just before half time on a sustained drive ending in a 3-yard rush by Clay Lepley. The third quarter was again scoreless. The Bucks missed on an opportunity to score when Gene Rich, at the fullback position, fumbled the ball in the end zone. The ball went out of bounds in the end zone although from the fans’ vantage point Rich appeared to be over the goal line. The officials ruled it as a fumble in the end zone. The ball was brought out to the 20-yard line, possession Rams. With the momentum and the wind with them, University of Maryland bound Sam Hollenbach showed Division I poise and delivered the ball to Jake Loux on a deep crossing pattern for 49 yards. Two plays later Hollenbach hit Jon Fox on a perfectly thrown ball to the left corner of the end zone for a TD. The score was now tied 7-7 halfway through the fourth quarter. West answered quickly. From the 20-yard line, Jim Fagnani burst up the middle for a 67-yard gain. Fagnani finished the 6-play drive when he took the ball in on a 2-yard run with 4:12 left in the game. But Jim Wiberly’s PAT into the wind was uncharacteristically wide right and ruled "no good."

The Rams, now armed with plenty of grit and determination, set off on a series of successful play action passes and a 68-yard drive. It ended with an 11-yard TD run by freshman Ryan Geiser. With 48 seconds left in the game, Pennridge scored and made their important PAT to go ahead of the Bucks 14-13. Pete Hamill returned the ball to the 45-yard line on the kickoff but the game ended when Joe DiGiacomo’s pass intended for Kyle Myers was intercepted. Although it appeared that Kyle was pushed just before going up for the ball, the Bucks did not get the pass interference call and the Pennridge Rams only needed to take a knee and run out the clock.

For the second time this season, the Bucks had to watch their game get away from them in the final seconds of the game. This time, the team was watching their season vanish in the final seconds of the game.

Central Bucks West.....25

Truman ..............7

Coach Randy Cuthbert has enRICHed his backfield. Proving that he’s an innovative coach who is ready to put his own wrinkles into the playbook, Coach Cuthbert moved Gene Rich to the fullback position Friday night against the Truman Tigers. Rich, who earned All-State honors last year as a guard, carried the ball 14 times for 66 yards and scored all three West touchdowns against the Tigers of Harry S. Truman.

During West’s first possession, Rich carried the ball 6 times, including the last 5 plays of the series and scored from the 1-yard line with a little more than 7 minutes left in the first quarter. The Bucks drove 65 yards on their first possession and then drove 48 yards after the Tigers muffed on the kickoff to jump ahead 14-0. When the rushing game started to sputter QB Joe DiGiacomo found Kyle Myers (2 for 43 yards) or Dan Brown (1 for 9 yards) open for important first downs. On West’s third possession, Jim Wiberly kicked a 37-yard field goal against a stiff crosswind.

The Tigers proved to be a tenacious opponent. Although their passing game never got off the ground, the Delaware Wing-T offense was well executed with Lenegan (18 for 80 yards) and Rosetti (11 for 71) rushing for long yardage at times. The misdirection in the backfield, dark uniforms and a poorly-lit field kept the Bucks on their toes.

In the third quarter, the Bucks dominated time of possession with a long and impressive drive that culminated in another Rich TD. The 21-play drive used a cast of players including Jim Fagnani (12 for 67), Aaron Kennedy (3 for 12), Jim Mitchell (8 for 50) and Clay Lepley (3 for 7). The drive was supported by the superb blocking power of Justin Outten, Mike Weir, Mike Winn, and Marat Mamedov. Chris McGinn ran an end-around for the 2-point conversion after the TD to bring the score to 25-7 in the fourth.

With the win against Truman, the Bucks are looking ahead to Pennridge for the final game of the regular season. The Pennridge coaches might be looking for a good iron for the new wrinkles they saw in the Bucks’ backfield.

Central Bucks West.....35

Bensalem................6

The Bucks of CB West kept on marching towards the Suburban I play-offs by dominating the Bensalem Owls at War Memorial Field in Doylestown Friday night. If there was concern of a let down after an emotional game last week the Bucks shook it off in the same way Jim Fagnani shook off 3 tackles on his way to a 64-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

QB Joe DiGiacomo (9 for14 passing) hit Dan Brown for a 17-yard TD pass in the first quarter. In the second quarter DiGiacomo’s favorite receiver was senior Kyle Myers with whom he connected on the next three possessions giving the Bucks a 27-0 comfort zone at halftime. Fagnani’s 64-yard TD run in the third quarter stretched the lead to 35-0 and invoked the running clock. Once the mercy rule was in effect, West kept the ball on the ground, even letting Gene Rich and Justin Outten get in on the action. Rich ran the ball into the end zone on the extra point conversion but Outten had difficulty hanging onto the pigskin on his try.

On offense Gene Rich, Justin Outten, Mike Weir, and Sean Burke provided plenty of protection for DiGiacomo. Frank Kish (3 for 18 yards), Jim Mitchell (5 for 27 yards), Aaron Kennedy (7 for 72 yards), Jim Fagnani (9 for102 yards), Pete Hamill (1 for 10 yards), Joe DiGiacomo (8 for 36 yards) and others rushed for a combined yardage of 282 yards.

Mike Winn and Andrew Ackley frustrated the Owls while on defense. Chris McGinn had his first interception of the season. The Bucks continue to march. The beat goes on.
