Freedom..........14
The Bucks
of Central Bucks West kicked off their 2006 campaign
on Friday night against the Freedom Patriots. The
game was played under occasional showers and a
sustained breeze, courtesy of Tropical Storm
Ernesto. The Bucks’ home opener also marked the
unveiling of War Memorial Field’s new,
state-of-the-art playing surface. C.B.
West’s defense dominated most of the game,
especially in the first half where the Patriots were
held scoreless. The Bucks’ tenacious defense was
due in large part to an intimidating pass rush that
hounded Freedom’s quarterback Joseph Weaver and made
the Patriots running game earn of every yard they
gained. The Bucks’ defensive unit was led by senior
defensive end Tucker Thompson who recorded a couple
of sacks and junior Eric Fechter who made his
presence felt with a couple of tackles for losses.
It
appeared as though the teams would enter the locker
room knotted in a scoreless tie, but West mounted a
charge late in the second quarter which was capped
by a beautifully executed “alley-oop” touchdown pass
from Wes O’Kula to Andy Russell. The Bucks were
unsuccessful on the extra point attempt, but carried
the lead into the locker room.
West’s defense continued its strong play in the
second half, but unfortunately was plagued by a few
special teams miscues and a couple of untimely,
questionable calls. The Patriots were able to take
advantage and Weaver delivered a 27-yard touchdown
strike in the third and Sigley punched the ball into
the end zone again from a yard out in the fourth.
Both scores were followedropped their opener 14-6
Strong
performances were also put in by Matt Fitz who
gained 52 yards on ten rushes and Wes O’Kula tallied
an interception. The entire defensive unit played
well against a Freedom team that will surely put up
a lot of points this year. The entire West team
benefited from a loud and spirited bench and from
the support of the best fans in the state of
Pennsylvania. WEST IS BEST! GO BUCKS!!

Titan Stadium
CB West .....20 CB South.....47
The Bucks traveled to Titan Stadium
on Friday night to face off against cross-town rival
Central Bucks South. The upstart Titans were looking to
build upon their opening week victory against Council
Rock South. Central Bucks West was seeking its first
triumph of the young season. This much-anticipated
early season showdown drew fans from all over the area
and it was obvious as Titan Stadium was bursting at the
seams with supporters from both schools. West
looked to establish defensive supremacy early as they
forced and recovered a South fumble on the second play
from scrimmage. However, the Bucks were unable to put
any points on the board as they soon turned the ball
over on downs. C.B. South wasted no time on this
possession when junior running back Eric Reynolds
scampered 83 yards to paydirt. South converted the
extra point and lead 7-0. On the ensuing
possession, the Bucks methodically marched 72 yards to
the end zone. The drive was capped by a beautifully
executed touchdown pass from O’Kula to Russell from the
Titans’ 21 yard line, reminiscent of their hookup in the
opening game against Freedom. The PAT was good and the
score was knotted at 7-7. The Titan offense
quickly answered the Bucks’ strike with one of their own
from Miller to Donnelly and lead 14-7. Early in
the second quarter, West took advantage of another Titan
fumble and the formidable passing combination of O’Kula
to Russell struck again from the Titan 36 yard line.
The Bucks trailed 14-13 following an unsuccessful extra
point attempt.
However, the remainder of the half would not be friendly
to the visiting Bucks as the Titans reached the end zone
three more times, once through the air and twice on the
ground. This pushed the Titans’ lead to 33-13 as the
teams entered the locker room. South was able to
score another touchdown on their first possession of the
second half and extended the lead to 40-13. The Bucks
kept the pressure on the Titans and their perseverance
paid off when they recovered the third South fumble of
the evening. West assumed possession at the Titans’ 28
yard line and punched the ball in five plays later on a
Tim Mooradd 1-yard run. The extra point was successful
and the score stood at 40-20 at the end of the third
quarter. South would add a final touchdown in the
fourth quarter and the game ended with a 47-20 Titan
victory. Strong performances were put in once
again by the O’Kula-Russell passing tandem as Coach
Felton and the Bucks’ staff successfully established the
passing game. The Bucks’ offensive line
played a huge role as their pass blocking bought O’Kula
plenty of time on many key passes. In addition, Ted
Conrad, Dave Mastrangelo, and Andrew Conley forced
fumbles that were recovered by Matt Fitz and Tim Mooradd.
The Bucks face off against Quakertown
at War Memorial Field on Friday evening in their first
conference game of the season. WEST IS BEST! GO

Quakertown..........6
The Bucks of Central Bucks West had
revenge on their minds as they faced off against the
Quakertown Panthers on Friday night in the friendly
confines of War Memorial Field. West dropped the season
opener at Quakertown a year ago and Chris Felton and his
coaching staff wanted to make sure that history did not
repeat itself on this night. Both teams were seeking
their first victory of the young season. It seemed
that the Panthers would pick up where they left as they
marched down the field on their first drive. However,
the Bucks would have none of it as Quakertown’s Kyle
Ames had the ball jarred loose by the Bucks’ defense on
the goal line. West recovered the fumble and the
Panther drive came to a crashing halt.
Unfortunately, the Bucks’ initial drive would meet a
similar demise as they coughed the ball up deep in the
Panthers’ territory. The drive had early promise as
Matt Fitz scampered 48 yards from the 25 yard line.
Neither team was able to score in the remainder of the
opening quarter and the game went into its second frame
in a scoreless tie. Quakertown was able to make its way
deep into Bucks’ territory on two occasions during the
second quarter, but had to settle for two Jordan Waxman
field goals. It seemed as though the Bucks would enter
the locker room facing a 6-0 deficit, but when
Quakertown’s Jordan Waxman kicked off following his
second field goal the ball found its way to the hands of
junior Ryan O’Kula and lightning struck. O’Kula
initially began his scintillating kickoff return running
to his left, but then cut it back to his right and found
a gear that nobody else on the field had and he was gone
for a 92-yard touchdown. McDevitt added the PAT and the
Bucks and their faithful fans were given a well-deserved
dose of momentum. The Bucks found themselves with a 7-6
halftime lead. The spark provided by O’Kula’s
return would carry over into the second half as Andy
Russell added another chapter to his ever-growing
highlight reel with a beautiful 53-yard cutback run that
went for paydirt.
Complemented by a great defensive effort, the Bucks put a
stranglehold on the game with a 5-yard touchdown
reception by Tim Mooradd from Wes O’Kula. West further
increased its lead on Nick Donato’s nifty nineteen-yard
touchdown run. McDevitt converted the PAT and the Bucks
led 26-6, where the score would stay. The victory
was the result of key plays at key moments in the game
and a West defense that refused to let the Panthers
consistently move the ball. Quakertown was only able to
muster 23 yards through the air. Matt Fitz broke the
hundred-yard mark(101) on 8 carries and West’s top three
rushers averaged over ten yards per carry. Teddy
Conrad, Eric Fechter, Matt McMurdo, and Dave Mastrangelo
all had standout performances for the victorious
Bucks.
The Bucks look to make it two in a row as they face off
against Souderton on Thursday night. WEST IS BEST! GO

Souderton..........49
The Bucks faced off against the
Souderton Indians under the lights of War Memorial Field
in a rare Thursday night contest. The game was a
renewal of an old Bux-Mont rivalry that had been on ice
for thirteen years. The Indians were looking to build
on an already promising season and the Bucks were
looking to make it two in a row after last Friday’s
defeat of Quakertown. The opening kickoff would
set the tone for the game as senior Ronnie Powell
returned the boot 70 yards to the end zone. The PAT was
good and Souderton never looked back. Souderton
would score again in the first quarter on a Ryan
Dickerson 40-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Mike
Franklin. Souderton led 14-0 at that point.
Souderton would reach the end zone three more times in
the second quarter on scoring runs by each of the Powell
brothers and one by Mike Franklin. In addition,
the Indians built on their lead with touchdown runs in
the third and fourth quarters by Ryan A. Brown and James
VanDerbeek respectively.
The Bucks did have their share of
strong performances on a night that they would otherwise
rather forget. Offensively, quarterback Wes O’Kula
connected with Andy Russell on a 29-yard touchdown
strike in the fourth quarter. The Bucks offensive line
played solidly throughout the game, allowing Wes O’Kula
to complete 11 of 23 passes for 121 yards against a very
tenacious Souderton defense. On the defensive side of
the ball, Dave Mastrangelo played tough in the middle
and Tim Proud added an interception.
The Bucks look to
get back into the win column on Friday night at War
Memorial Field against longtime rival Central Bucks
East. WEST IS BEST! GO BUCKS!!
