The Bucks
of Central Bucks West kicked off their 2006 campaign
on Friday night against the Freedom Patriots. The
game was played under occasional showers and a
sustained breeze, courtesy of Tropical Storm
Ernesto. The Bucks’ home opener also marked the
unveiling of War Memorial Field’s new,
state-of-the-art playing surface. C.B.
West’s defense dominated most of the game,
especially in the first half where the Patriots were
held scoreless. The Bucks’ tenacious defense was
due in large part to an intimidating pass rush that
hounded Freedom’s quarterback Joseph Weaver and made
the Patriots running game earn of every yard they
gained. The Bucks’ defensive unit was led by senior
defensive end Tucker Thompson who recorded a couple
of sacks and junior Eric Fechter who made his
presence felt with a couple of tackles for losses. It
appeared as though the teams would enter the locker
room knotted in a scoreless tie, but West mounted a
charge late in the second quarter which was capped
by a beautifully executed “alley-oop” touchdown pass
from Wes O’Kula to Andy Russell. The Bucks were
unsuccessful on the extra point attempt, but carried
the lead into the locker room.
West’s defense continued its strong play in the
second half, but unfortunately was plagued by a few
special teams miscues and a couple of untimely,
questionable calls. The Patriots were able to take
advantage and Weaver delivered a 27-yard touchdown
strike in the third and Sigley punched the ball into
the end zone again from a yard out in the fourth.
Both scores were followedropped their opener 14-6
Strong
performances were also put in by Matt Fitz who
gained 52 yards on ten rushes and Wes O’Kula tallied
an interception. The entire defensive unit played
well against a Freedom team that will surely put up
a lot of points this year. The entire West team
benefited from a loud and spirited bench and from
the support of the best fans in the state of
Pennsylvania. WEST IS BEST! GO BUCKS!!

The Bucks traveled to Titan Stadium
on Friday night to face off against cross-town rival
Central Bucks South. The upstart Titans were looking to
build upon their opening week victory against Council
Rock South. Central Bucks West was seeking its first
triumph of the young season. This much-anticipated
early season showdown drew fans from all over the area
and it was obvious as Titan Stadium was bursting at the
seams with supporters from both schools. West
looked to establish defensive supremacy early as they
forced and recovered a South fumble on the second play
from scrimmage. However, the Bucks were unable to put
any points on the board as they soon turned the ball
over on downs. C.B. South wasted no time on this
possession when junior running back Eric Reynolds
scampered 83 yards to paydirt. South converted the
extra point and lead 7-0. On the ensuing
possession, the Bucks methodically marched 72 yards to
the end zone. The drive was capped by a beautifully
executed touchdown pass from O’Kula to Russell from the
Titans’ 21 yard line, reminiscent of their hookup in the
opening game against Freedom. The PAT was good and the
score was knotted at 7-7. The Titan offense
quickly answered the Bucks’ strike with one of their own
from Miller to Donnelly and lead 14-7. Early in
the second quarter, West took advantage of another Titan
fumble and the formidable passing combination of O’Kula
to Russell struck again from the Titan 36 yard line.
The Bucks trailed 14-13 following an unsuccessful extra
point attempt.
However, the remainder of the half would not be friendly
to the visiting Bucks as the Titans reached the end zone
three more times, once through the air and twice on the
ground. This pushed the Titans’ lead to 33-13 as the
teams entered the locker room. South was able to
score another touchdown on their first possession of the
second half and extended the lead to 40-13. The Bucks
kept the pressure on the Titans and their perseverance
paid off when they recovered the third South fumble of
the evening. West assumed possession at the Titans’ 28
yard line and punched the ball in five plays later on a
Tim Mooradd 1-yard run. The extra point was successful
and the score stood at 40-20 at the end of the third
quarter. South would add a final touchdown in the
fourth quarter and the game ended with a 47-20 Titan
victory. Strong performances were put in once
again by the O’Kula-Russell passing tandem as Coach
Felton and the Bucks’ staff successfully established the
passing game. The Bucks’ offensive line
played a huge role as their pass blocking bought O’Kula
plenty of time on many key passes. In addition, Ted
Conrad, Dave Mastrangelo, and Andrew Conley forced
fumbles that were recovered by Matt Fitz and Tim Mooradd.
The Bucks face off against Quakertown
at War Memorial Field on Friday evening in their first
conference game of the season. WEST IS BEST! GO

Quakertown..........6
The Bucks of Central Bucks West had
revenge on their minds as they faced off against the
Quakertown Panthers on Friday night in the friendly
confines of War Memorial Field. West dropped the season
opener at Quakertown a year ago and Chris Felton and his
coaching staff wanted to make sure that history did not
repeat itself on this night. Both teams were seeking
their first victory of the young season. It seemed
that the Panthers would pick up where they left as they
marched down the field on their first drive. However,
the Bucks would have none of it as Quakertown’s Kyle
Ames had the ball jarred loose by the Bucks’ defense on
the goal line. West recovered the fumble and the
Panther drive came to a crashing halt.
Unfortunately, the Bucks’ initial drive would meet a
similar demise as they coughed the ball up deep in the
Panthers’ territory. The drive had early promise as
Matt Fitz scampered 48 yards from the 25 yard line.
Neither team was able to score in the remainder of the
opening quarter and the game went into its second frame
in a scoreless tie. Quakertown was able to make its way
deep into Bucks’ territory on two occasions during the
second quarter, but had to settle for two Jordan Waxman
field goals. It seemed as though the Bucks would enter
the locker room facing a 6-0 deficit, but when
Quakertown’s Jordan Waxman kicked off following his
second field goal the ball found its way to the hands of
junior Ryan O’Kula and lightning struck. O’Kula
initially began his scintillating kickoff return running
to his left, but then cut it back to his right and found
a gear that nobody else on the field had and he was gone
for a 92-yard touchdown. McDevitt added the PAT and the
Bucks and their faithful fans were given a well-deserved
dose of momentum. The Bucks found themselves with a 7-6
halftime lead. The spark provided by O’Kula’s
return would carry over into the second half as Andy
Russell added another chapter to his ever-growing
highlight reel with a beautiful 53-yard cutback run that
went for paydirt. Complemented by a great defensive effort, the Bucks put a
stranglehold on the game with a 5-yard touchdown
reception by Tim Mooradd from Wes O’Kula. West further
increased its lead on Nick Donato’s nifty nineteen-yard
touchdown run. McDevitt converted the PAT and the Bucks
led 26-6, where the score would stay. The victory
was the result of key plays at key moments in the game
and a West defense that refused to let the Panthers
consistently move the ball. Quakertown was only able to
muster 23 yards through the air. Matt Fitz broke the
hundred-yard mark(101) on 8 carries and West’s top three
rushers averaged over ten yards per carry. Teddy
Conrad, Eric Fechter, Matt McMurdo, and Dave Mastrangelo
all had standout performances for the victorious
Bucks.
The Bucks look to make it two in a row as they face off
against Souderton on Thursday night. WEST IS BEST! GO

Souderton..........49
The Bucks faced off against the
Souderton Indians under the lights of War Memorial Field
in a rare Thursday night contest. The game was a
renewal of an old Bux-Mont rivalry that had been on ice
for thirteen years. The Indians were looking to build
on an already promising season and the Bucks were
looking to make it two in a row after last Friday’s
defeat of Quakertown. The opening kickoff would
set the tone for the game as senior Ronnie Powell
returned the boot 70 yards to the end zone. The PAT was
good and Souderton never looked back. Souderton
would score again in the first quarter on a Ryan
Dickerson 40-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Mike
Franklin. Souderton led 14-0 at that point.
Souderton would reach the end zone three more times in
the second quarter on scoring runs by each of the Powell
brothers and one by Mike Franklin. In addition,
the Indians built on their lead with touchdown runs in
the third and fourth quarters by Ryan A. Brown and James
VanDerbeek respectively.
The Bucks did have their share of
strong performances on a night that they would otherwise
rather forget. Offensively, quarterback Wes O’Kula
connected with Andy Russell on a 29-yard touchdown
strike in the fourth quarter. The Bucks offensive line
played solidly throughout the game, allowing Wes O’Kula
to complete 11 of 23 passes for 121 yards against a very
tenacious Souderton defense. On the defensive side of
the ball, Dave Mastrangelo played tough in the middle
and Tim Proud added an interception.
The Bucks look to
get back into the win column on Friday night at War
Memorial Field against longtime rival Central Bucks
East. WEST IS BEST! GO BUCKS!!

Central Bucks West
squared off against the Patriots of Central Bucks East
at a capacity, standing room only War Memorial Field on
Friday night. The atmosphere in the stadium conjured up
memories of Thanksgiving days of the past. Many of the
players knew each other on a first name basis, played
side-by-side on Pop Warner teams, and the contest was
hard-fought from the kickoff to the final gun. This
night would have one more thing in common with many of
those Turkey Day battles- a Bucks’ victory. The
Bucks controlled the tempo in the opening quarter as
they drove from their own 26-yard line to the Patriots’
12 yard-line with an effective variety of running and
passing plays. However, West was turned away by an East
interception. The Patriots’ ensuing drive would not
yield any points either as Trymbiski missed a field goal
attempt. The Bucks took over possession of the
ball as the final seconds ticked away in a scoreless
first quarter. On the Bucks’ first play of the
second quarter, quarterback Wes O’Kula hooked up with
Andy Russell on a well-executed 52-yard pass play. This
brought the Bucks to the East 3-yard line where Matt
Fitz punched the ball into the end zone. Bamford
converted the PAT and West had staked a 7-0 lead. The
Bucks and Patriots would exchange turnovers later on in
the quarter, but no more points would be put on the
board for the remainder of the half. West began
the second half with a 13 play, time consuming drive.
However, a couple of penalties and sacks would spell the
end of the Bucks’ drive. East held possession on only
one short-lived drive in the third quarter, which was
halted on a fumble that the Bucks recovered. The
quarter ended on what was deemed a lateral and a fumble
by the Bucks. Following a quick four and out possession
by East, the Bucks took over possession on their own 35
yard-line, where they would only need four plays to
reach the end zone. The drive was capped by a
beautifully-thrown 46-yard touchdown strike from Wes
O’Kula to Dave Mastrangelo which sent the West faithful
into wild jubilation. Bamford was successful on his
second PAT of the night and West held a 14-0 advantage
over East. The Patriots answered on their next
possession as Veix ran the ball into the end zone from
the Bucks’ 29-yard line. The PAT was good and the
Bucks’ lead had been trimmed to 14-7. West was unable
to move the ball on their next possession, but the
Patriots’ following drive met the same fate.
Disaster almost struck on the next possession as the
Bucks turned the ball over in their own territory.
However, West tightened the screws on the defensive side
of the ball as they had done all night. Facing a fourth
and five on the Bucks 20-yard with 27 seconds remaining,
the Patriots had to convert. Teddy Trymbiski and the
Patriots decided to go to the air with a desperation
heave. However, camped under the ball were Tim Proud
and Matt Fitz who instantly batted the ball away. The
Bucks victoriously ran out the clock on a memorable 14-7
victory.
Key performance were put
in by Matt Fitz and Dave Mastrangelo on both sides of
the ball. Mark DiCicco played well on the line, as did
Nick Donato at the linebacker spot and Tucker Thompson
at defensive end. Tim Proud had a stellar game on
defense and John DiStefano punted the ball well in
crucial spots in the game.
The Bucks travel to
Hatboro-Horsham on Friday night looking to make it two
in a row and even their record at 3-3.

Hatboro Horsham..........50
The
Bucks made the trip down Route 611 on a brisk Friday
evening to face off against the Hatters of
Hatboro-Horsham. West was looking to even its record at
3-3 and go above the .500 mark in conference play. The
Hatters were looking to build on an already promising
season by pushing their record to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in
the conference. Hatboro-Horsham struck first on a
16-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Marshall
Vogel to senior wide receiver Nick Lackman. The Hatters
successfully converted the PAT and had jumped out to a
quick 7-0 lead. However, the Bucks would
capitalize on their ensuing possession and proceeded to
march 82 yards on 11 plays to the Hatters’ end zone.
The drive was capped by a Matt Fitz 1-yard touchdown
plunge. Unfortunately, the PAT was not converted, but
the Bucks had trimmed the Hatboro-Horsham lead.
The Bucks defense stopped the high-octane Hatter offense
on their next two possessions, highlighted by a fumble
recovery for the Bucks. However, the Hatters quickly
regained possession on a West fumble on the 9-yard line
and scored on their next play. Hatboro-Horsham faked
the extra point and tallied 2 points on the conversion
and lead 15 to 6. West wasted no time in answering
again, thanks in large part to a spectacular kickoff
return by Matt Fitz that set the Bucks up at the Hatter
26-yard line. On their second play from scrimmage in
the drive, quarterback Wes O’Kula hooked up with a
familiar target, Andy Russell, for a 23-yard touchdown
strike. Bamford converted the extra point and the score
stood at 15-14, Hatters. Hatboro-Horsham answered
on their following possession as they marched 52 yards
to the end zone, capped by 4-yard Matt Zoback run. The
Hatters lead 22-13, following a successful PAT
conversion. Hatboro-Horsham would strike paydirt again
on their next drive and lead 29-13, where the score
would stay for the remainder of the half. West got
on the board first in the second half, thanks to a
ten-play, 60-yard scoring drive. The drive was
highlighted by a 17-yard scoring strike from Wes O’Kula
to Andy Russell. However, the Bucks were turned away on
their two-point attempt, but the lead had eroded away to
ten. Hatboro-Horsham responded by adding two more
scores, both coming on the ground and on the legs of
senior running back Jared Johnson. The score stood at
43-19. West chipped into the lead a bit in the
fourth quarter on a 16-play, 69-yard drive that
culminated with 7-yard touchdown catch by Tim Mooradd.
The Bucks successfully converted the two-point attempt
and the score stood at 43-27. Hatboro-Horsham
added a final touchdown late in the contest and the
scoreboard read 50-27 as the final seconds ticked off
the clock. Matt Fitz ran the ball hard as usual
and accumulated 54 yards and a touchdown before
succumbing to an injury. The offensive line should be
congratulated for their performance that allowed Wes
O’Kula to complete 18 passes for 189 yards and 3
touchdowns. Andy Russell, Tim Mooradd, and Dave
Mastrangelo provided good targets for O’Kula to pass to
all night. On the defensive side of the ball,
Mastrangelo lead the Bucks with 11 tackles.
