Getting involved in your High School

Why should you get involved in your high school sports and extra-curricular activities?

  a. You have three of the greatest years ahead of you- take advantage of everything that is offered.

 b. To receive the complete education, you should become involved in all aspects of school.

 c. Provides for a balance schedule- excellent practice for life.

 d. You have plenty of time to work on the weekends- you owe it to yourself to work part time not full time.

 e. Meet new friends quickly that share an interest.

Understand the value of the multi-sport athlete.

When you feel the pressure to make a decision about playing one sport.  Remember the following. . .

  1. Multi-sport athletes generally pick up new skills and techniques quicker than one- sport athletes.

  2. Multi- sport athletes develop a complete understanding of the common characteristics of all competitive sports i.e.- angles, strategy, coping with momentum shifts, diets., ect.

  3. Multi-sport athletes attract more interests from colleges than do one- sport athletes.  Unless you are a Division I –A athlete, you are more likely to play at a Division I-AA, Division II, or Division III school.  Remember, multi-sport athletes have coaches from multiple sports helping them get into schools.

  4. Multi-sport athletes develop and maintain a competitive fire in their bellies all year.

  5. Multi-sport athletes understand the need for exercising and work in the weightroom.

  6. The risk of burnout is reduced when playing a variety of sports.

  7. Multi-sport athletes provide themselves increased opportunities to meet new people.

  8. Athletic skills are universal to all sports.

  9. Your school’s athletic department is better all around.

Should I play Football?

  1. The popularity of football is increasing everyday, but many people feel that they cannot play it.  They feel that they may lack size, experience.  These are comments that are often heard.

  2. At CB West we can negate (off set) these concerns with a combination of hard work by both the student and the coach and proper instruction on the field and weightroom.

  1. If you are not currently planning on playing an in-season sport in the fall we would like you to consider playing and learning football.

  1. If you play soccer, we want you to play soccer.  But we can also offer you a chance to kick and punt with the team.
