Pre read the defense
before the snap to get a tip-off as to which defenders
you will have to block.
Read your blockers, run
to daylight.
Run north and south.
Sprint to your
assignment and stay low.
Ball security is a
must! There should be four pressure points on the ball-
your hand, inside of your forearm, the rib cage
(married to the rib cage), and bi-cep. Run with the
ball to the sideline, don’t switch ball unless you are
completely in the clear. Cover up when being tackled.
Always know the blocking
scheme.
Refuse to go down.
Never allow one person to bring you down.
Listen to the line
calls, what is the front? Is there an out call etc.
Work on your moves, but
master one. Remember the goal- gain yardage- don’t
sacrifice gaining yards or ball security just to make a
great move.
Run with body lean, keep
your feet off the ground and run with high knees.
Strive to be a punishing
runner- make the defense reconsider tackling you.
Always know the down and
distance and the time remaining.
Take pride in your
blocking. If you only excel at one aspect of the game,
make it your blocking.
Compliment your lineman
when they pass block well. Without good run blocking a
RB cannot look good.
