1999 season
recaptured:
The
1999 Central Bucks West "Bucks" were 10-0
against a tough Suburban One Conference. They ended
their regular season against rival North Penn where CB
West’s Head Coach Mike Pettine led the Bucks to a
17-7 win against his son, Head Coach for the Knights,
Michael Pettine Jr. This win gave the Bucks their 8th
straight Suburban One League National Conference
Championship and cemented their status as #1 team in
Pennsylvania.
The
Bucks went on in the District playoffs where they met
North Penn again and won handily 21-0. The brilliant
season was highlighted by CB West’s come-from-behind
thriller against Erie Cathedral Prep in the State
Championship game in Hershey PA on Dec. 11, 1999. With
all-time CBW leading rusher and All-State fullback
Dustin Picciotti out of the game early with an ankle
injury the Bucks played tenaciously. They were behind
13-7 in the fourth quarter when Senior Andrew Elsing
blocked a punt and stumbled into the end zone to tie
the game. Kicker Bob Tumelty sealed the game by
delivering the extra point. The Bucks defense hung on
and clinched the win for CB West. This marked the
third straight 4A Championship for the Bucks and
brought the current winning streak to 45-0.
2000
Season Preview:
This
year the Bucks are looking for Senior leadership from
3 year starting QB Mike Orihel, full back Phil
DiGiacomo, and running back speedster Dave Camburn.
New Head Coach Mike Carey may decide to go to the air
more with wide receiver Zach Ingram. Bob Warden, last
year’s Championship game standout, will be a
constant threat in the running back position as well.
The defense has quickness and speed in their favor
with Fran Golden, James West, Zach Ingram, and Dave
Camburn. The offensive line has strength and agility
with Nick Daily, Justin Outten, Jon Arsenault, Angelo
Verrillo, Josh Sands, and Gene Rich.
